Steven L. Griffith, PhD

Dr. Griffith retired from a career spanning more than thirty years in translational Research & Development (R&D) and medical affairs at both large and small companies. The medical device and biotechnology companies he worked for were in the therapeutic areas of gastroenterology, radiology, spine surgery, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, neurology, urology, infectious diseases, and interventional radiology/oncology. As an executive leader, he was responsible for establishing and maintaining professional relationships with key medical opinion and research leaders by developing and providing complex medical and scientific information in those specialties.
Dr. Griffith received his PhD in Physiology and Biophysics from the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. His dissertation research focused on changes in smooth muscle mechanics in response to hypoxic environments. In addition to more than 100 scientific conference abstracts, Dr. Griffith has authored or co-authored twenty peer-reviewed manuscripts and has co-edited two medical books. He is a named inventor on ten patents.
Heterotaxy became a focus after his granddaughter was born with the diagnosis. The experience helping his daughter and son-in-law navigate the complexities associated with the prognosis, treatments, and cardiac surgical options has heightened his awareness of the challenges faced by families trying to do the very best for their kids.
