Dr. Spearman is a physician-scientist specializing in Pediatric Cardiology with a research focus in pulmonary vascular complications associated with single ventricle congenital heart disease. Dr. Spearman graduated from New York University School of Medicine in 2012. He then completed clinical training in Pediatrics (University of Chicago 2012-2015) and Pediatric Cardiology (Medical College of Wisconsin 2015-2018). He pursued focused research training in vascular biology as a post-doctoral research fellow (Medical College of Wisconsin 2018-2019) before transitioning to faculty at Medical College of Wisconsin in 2019. His research utilizes animal models and patient tissue samples to study pulmonary vascular complications of single ventricle congenital heart disease – specifically pulmonary arteriovenous malformations and aortopulmonary collaterals.
