Dr. Xi (Charlie) Ren is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering. His research focuses on engineering stem cell-derived lung organoids and biomaterials to study human lung development, disease, and regeneration. His laboratory develops bioengineering approaches to recreate the cellular and extracellular microenvironment of the lung, including apical-out airway organoids, extracellular matrix-engineered organoid systems, and models of cardiopulmonary co-development. His research uses these platforms to investigate airway epithelial biology, mucociliary clearance, and host-environment interactions, with applications in disease modeling, regenerative medicine, and biohybrid technologies.
